About the role

We're looking for a Performance Marketing Director to lead and evolve our performance marketing department. With over 8 years of experience in performance marketing, you will set the strategic direction, drive client success, and develop a high-performing team. You'll oversee performance marketing initiatives, keeping them aligned with business objectives while constantly refining strategies to maximise impact.

The role is both strategic and hands-on — guiding the team, working closely with clients, and collaborating across departments to push the boundaries of what's possible in digital marketing. You bring a deep understanding of the user journey, balancing acquisition, retention, and brand growth while using data-driven insights to drive sustainable performance.

You'll be measured on three things: client satisfaction, revenue, and team productivity.

What you'll own

Delivery management (40%)

Lead the Performance team to achieve client KPIs.
Directly contribute to the management of top-tier clients.
Maintain an overview of budget pacing and goal pacing across all clients and teams.
Develop growth marketing strategies and direction for new clients — groom Performance Managers to adopt the learnings from your strategies.
Contribute to onboarding new clients by creating media plans and performance roadmaps with the Performance team.
Sign off on media plans and performance roadmaps.
Work closely with the Data team on solutions that drive efficiency in reporting, insights, and campaign management.
Continuously monitor resourcing, time, and effort distribution across teams on retainer delivery.
Secure account stability and profitability by keeping clients happy in a business-sustainable way.

Business development & commercial management (30%)

Drive revenue growth by identifying opportunities to sell additional services based on client needs.
Participate in new business initiatives — audit, strategise, and develop proposals for prospective clients.
Contribute to resource planning and business forecasts.
Ensure the team delivers within the scope of work, and manage scope creep.

Team management & development (30%)

Set the standard for performance road-mapping, project management, media planning, campaign experimentation, and budget management.
Lead and develop Performance Managers and Performance Specialists.
Develop internal processes — document procedures, streamline work, improve communication between teams, and own the onboarding of clients and new hires.
Conduct individual development plans and performance reviews with direct reports.
Observe and coordinate training for development areas at an individual and team level.
Be proactively involved in the training and development of the performance team — building skills through on-the-job coaching, support, and guidance.
Develop best practices, processes, and SOPs for delivering successful growth strategies and tactics.
Ensure the team adheres to the correct processes and follows best practice.
Keep a strong pulse on productivity — client hours bought versus actual delivery.

Who you are

Must-haves

8+ years managing successful performance marketing teams, ideally at an agency or ad-tech provider.
3+ years of people management experience.
Proven track record leading effective marketing operations and driving significant impact in the management of marketing campaigns.
Expert proficiency across paid channels — Search, Social (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and more), Programmatic, Video, Display, and Email.

Nice-to-haves

Demonstrated success managing numerous client campaigns and over US$5M in annual advertising spend.
The range to move from strategy to planning to execution to optimisation to strategic refinement.
Proven experience with project management software (bonus points if you're a ClickUp pro).
Superb written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills across co-located, hybrid, and virtual teams.
Excellent people-leadership and stakeholder management; comfortable in fast-paced, geographically dispersed teams.
